Terms & Conditions - Insured Postal Packet Service
- Overview of the service
1.1 The Insured Postal Packet service allows a sender to post a Postal Packet to an international destination with insurance cover for loss, theft, or damage up to the value declared by the sender, subject to the limits specified in these Terms and Conditions.
1.2 This service is not a hand‑to‑hand or Registered service and does not require a signature on delivery. Delivery confirmation recorded by the receiving postal operator constitutes proof of delivery.
1.3 The Insured Postal Packet service is not available within the island of Ireland.
1.4 The service is available for documents and goods up to 20kg. - Terms and Conditions
2.1 These Terms and Conditions shall be read together with, and are supplementary to, the USO Single Piece Mail Terms and Conditions.
2.2 Certain words used in these Terms and Conditions are capitalised. These words adopt the same definitions as in the USO Single Piece Mail Terms and Conditions.
2.3 Except where expressly varied or supplemented by these Terms and Conditions, the USO Single Piece Mail Terms and Conditions shall apply to the Insured Postal Packet service.
2.4 In the event of any inconsistency or conflict between these Terms and Conditions and the USO Single Piece Terms and Conditions, these Terms and Conditions shall prevail in respect of the Insured Postal Packet service. - Charges
3.1 There shall be charged and paid upon Insured Postal Packets the Charges specified in the Schedule of Charges. - Certificate of Posting and Tracking Number
4.1 An Post shall provide a Certificate of Posting on request when an Insured Postal Packet is posted at a Post Office.
4.2 An Post will provide a receipt which includes a tracking number, declared value and other important information. Customers should retain this receipt. - Insurance Cover
5.1 Insurance cover applies only where the sender has declared the value of the Postal Packet and the applicable charges have been paid.
5.2 The compensation payable in respect of an Insured Postal Packet:
5.2.1 addressed to anywhere outside Europe (being an Insured Postal Packet other than a Parcel) is limited to €35 plus charges paid, being a Parcel is limited to €100 plus charges paid;
5.2.2 addressed to Europe excluding United Kingdom of Great Britain is limited to €150 plus charges paid;
5.2.3 addressed to the United Kingdom of Great Britain is limited to €320, plus charges paid.
5.3 Insurance covers loss, theft, or damage up to the declared value, subject to exclusions.
5.4 No compensation shall be payable in respect of an Insured Postal Packet which contains any of the below items:
5.4.1 Cash, including Paper Money and Coins;
5.4.2 Bank Drafts;
5.4.3 Vouchers with monetary face value (other than postage stamps);
5.4.4 Passports;
5.4.5 Jewellery;
5.4.6 Precious metals such as platinum, gold or silver.
5.5 In no event may the amount of compensation exceed €350 plus charges paid in aggregate. - Delivery
6.1 A signature upon delivery is not required. Delivery confirmation by destination operator is considered sufficient to confirm proof of delivery.
6.2 Undeliverable items will be returned to sender where possible. - Service availability and changes to these Terms & Conditions
7.1 An Post may withdraw or modify this service from time to time to reflect changes in law, best practice or necessary changes in the service due to events or circumstances outside the control of An Post. As far as practically possible, reasonable notice of any material changes to the Terms and Conditions will be provided on our website. - Complaints and Claims Process
8.1 Complaints shall be dealt with in accordance with An Post’s complaints resolution process, found here.
8.2 Claims may be submitted for loss, theft or damage.
8.3 Claims must include proof of posting, evidence of value, and details of the loss, theft or damage.
8.4 Compensation will not exceed the declared value or the insurance limit.
8.5 Where delivery confirmation exists, no claim is payable.
