Sustainability Finance & Assurance Manager

About the Role 

In An Post sustainability informs every aspect of our business, every single day, enabling us to deliver benefits to our employees, our customers and the communities we serve.  Reporting to the Group Financial Accountant, in this role you will act as the subject matter expert on all aspects of sustainability finance and assurance for reporting to enable the communication of An Post’s ambitious and award winning sustainability strategy and commitments. Responsibilities 

The principal responsibilities associated with this role include, but are not limited to the following;

  • Work with stakeholders and colleagues across the business to establish processes and procedures for data collection, monitoring/processing, reporting, and review of sustainability information (both qualitative and quantitative) for disclosures, and integrate these into business activities.

  • Devise control frameworks for sustainability data to ensure alignment with domestic (SEAI) and European Sustainability Reporting Standards for financial and operational (non-financial) processes.

  • Work with the Head of Sustainability in the production of the Annual and/or Sustainability Report to ensure financial reporting and assurance requirements are met, drafting disclosures and providing analysis for inclusion where relevant.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with our external sustainability advisory and assurance providers, liaising with them on relevant engagements.

  • Work with other international Posts, developing and sharing best practice in meeting the requirements of European Sustainability Reporting Standards.

  • Develop and implement audit and assurance methodologies in other areas such as the approach to climate risk, social and human rights and supply chain risk. 

  • Demonstrate An Post “Shaping Our World” behaviours in your day to day work and address behaviour that supports/conflicts with them.

Knowledge & Experience

You will have a relevant third level degree with 5+ years’ experience working in an accounting firm or similar environment, are ACA qualified or hold an equivalent qualification. You have experience in conducting or managing audits or assurance engagements, either as an auditor/assurance provider or as the entity contact liaising with the auditor/assurance provider. You have an understanding of the role of assurance, the different types of services that can be provided (e.g. limited vs reasonable assurance) and specific challenges in the sustainability assurance market (e.g. ‘greenwashing').
 
You have a passion for sustainability/ESG and critically, you have an in-depth knowledge/understanding of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), EU taxonomy and the related European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), as well as other relevant non-financial/ESG reporting requirements.
 
You have a strong reporting skillset and ideally you have applied experience of sustainability reporting and disclosure requirements, combined with an understanding of key frameworks such as TCFD, GRI and CSRD. Experience delivering or advising on sustainability reporting within/for a company would also be beneficial.
 
You are an excellent communicator with high-level influencing skills and the ability to gain credibility across our organisation. This is a highly collaborative role requiring engagement with cross-functional stakeholders and as such, you will have the ability to operate in a complex, matrixed, evolving environment.

Professional certifications in sustainability are welcomed, but not required, with appropriate levels of practical experience.
