Software Engineer 

Job Purpose

The An Post Commerce Engineering Department is responsible for researching and developing processes and technology solutions that achieve step-changes to the overall efficiency and capacity of Mails & Parcels Processing facilities.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working as part of a multi-disciplined Engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing software solutions that support An Post’s automation solutions. This position is based in the DMC Campus, Dublin 12.
The successful candidate will develop on-going changes to the “AIRS” automation platform, which sits in the centre of the automation architecture providing many functions such as management reports, data interfaces and machine applications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the “AIRS” C# .Net applications for use with automated in mail processing sites

  • Supporting other Engineering team members in troubleshooting system issues

  • Installation & testing of software releases 

  • Maintain and administer AIRS software versions with GitHub

  • Administer the AIRS MS SQL servers

  • Create report queries in SQL on ad-hoc basis

  • Research new opportunities for utilising new platforms into solutions

Knowledge, Experience and Skills required

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a 2.1 Honours Degree in Computer Science or similar. The following skills are essential:

  • 3-5 years’ experience as a developer in .Net, C#

  • Experience using GitHub and version control

  • Proficient in writing SQL queries

  • Administration of MS SQL Server (logins and database maintenance)

  • MS Powershell experience advantageous

  • Knowledge of security best practices (passkey control etc.)

You will be flexible and open to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously within compressed time frames. A self-starter with the ability to demonstrate initiative and be willing to assume responsibility, who is also customer focused, with good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with management, users and suppliers.
