Director, HR Business Partnering - An Post Commerce

Role Purpose

Reporting to the Chief People Officer and as Director, HR Business Partnering - Commerce with a dotted line to the Managing Director of Commerce, this role will partner with the business unit to implement the people strategy and provide an expert and professional HR service to the Commerce business.  

You will proactively support and serve as a credible, trusted advisor to provide solutions and recommendations to drive business and cultural change, enhance operational effectiveness and ultimately drive improved business outcomes. You will collaborate with the Head of HR Services, Head of Employee Relations and Head of Talent, Diversity and Organisation Development to ensure that their programmes and initiatives are linked to the delivery of the business units’ strategic objectives and that any other requirements are agreed in line with the needs of the business unit.  You will work as part of a wider HR team and partner with your senior colleagues within HR to deliver high quality, efficient and consistent HR initiatives and services across the organisation.

Responsibilities

The primary accountabilities associated with this role include but are not limited to the following:
  • Implementing strategic objectives within the business unit;
  • Shape the culture within the business unit, supporting the management team in fostering a culture that supports the business as it continues to transform and the achievement of their strategic goals;
  • Share insight, guidance and advice on HR activities that enable continued business growth and performance;
  • Champion the talent agenda and ensure that the business unit has the required talent base and competencies to meet the current business needs now and for the future;
  • Liaise with the relevant support functions including talent acquisition, learning & development, health & safety, performance management and workforce planning;
  • Delivering the Industrial Relations agenda for the business unit and working in collaboration with the Head of Employee Relations on broader organisational IR/ER matters. Such areas will include:
    - Liaising on all company-wide IR issues including compensation, changes to terms and conditions and any other benefits.
    - Support for preparation of Monitoring group submissions.
    - All employee relations issues such as third party claims including grievances and any other claims.
  • Drawing on support from the Head of Talent, Diversity and Organisation Development, to include:
    - Talent management and acquisition – to include creation of succession plan
    - Resourcing
    - Learning & Development
    - Organisational development
    - Diversity & Inclusion – supporting company-wide D&I initiatives
  • Liaise and work closely with the Head of HR Services to ensure the needs of your business unit are met in the following areas:
    - Resourcing
    - Organisational restructure
    - Occupational health and advisory services
    - Compensation & Benefits
  • You will ensure that the communication and implementation of all policies, procedures and practices are in place;

  • Project work as and when required.
  • Demonstrating An Post values and behaviours in your day to day work and addressing behaviour that supports/conflicts with them.

Knowledge & Experience

You will be qualified to degree level in a relevant discipline and CIPD is desirable. A post graduate qualification will be an advantage. You will demonstrate solid HR experience with a minimum of 10 years’ senior managerial experience, including operating in a unionised environment.
You will possess at least 10 years’ experience in industrial relations and employee relations, performance and reward, learning and development and talent management & acquisition.
You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of related legislation. Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to gain buy in and influence stakeholders at all levels throughout the business is critical.  You will have strong relationship and influencing skills both internally and externally. Strong change management experience is essential.
