Taoiseach unveils stamp marking 50 Years of Guaranteed Irish

Thursday 8th February 2024: An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar today unveiled An Post’s new national stamp celebrating 50 years of Guaranteed Irish supporting Irish businesses.

The Guaranteed Irish symbol is one of Ireland’s most recognisable home-grown emblems and the organisation has been working since 1974 to encourage shoppers to support locally-based businesses displaying the Guaranteed Irish licenced mark when shopping in-store and online for goods and services.

An Post CEO, David McRedmond said: “We’re pleased to recognise the importance of Guaranteed Irish as the national symbol of trust in business in Ireland. Their work promotes all businesses based in Ireland, supporting fair working conditions and a growth economy. In this regard Guaranteed Irish and An Post have a lot in common and together we are helping build sustainable Irish businesses and communities for the future.”

Guaranteed Irish CEO, Brid O’Connell said “We are delighted with the support of such an iconic national brand such as An Post who like ourselves are championing sustainability amongst our members and customers’ businesses.

The 50th anniversary presents a lovely opportunity for us to work with genuine businesses who are long-term committed to Ireland, its workforce and the country’s reputation. It is only by working together, as we saw during the pandemic, how beneficial the experience can be for our local economy, our supply chain and our environment. Guaranteed Irish has supported the Irish economy for the last fifty years and looks forward to sustaining this focus for the next five decades. While we have evolved to represent our members, the support from businesses such as An Post has been steadfast and the new stamp is a really fitting way to celebrate this together”.

The ‘N’ rate €1.40 stamp covers postage across the island of Ireland and is available together with a first day cover envelope from 8th February at www.anpost.com/shop and selected post offices nationwide. Designed by Dublin-based CI Studio, the stamp captures the essence of Guaranteed Irish in a simple and playful way, with the iconic symbol rendered in gold.  A hand selecting the green dot over the ‘I’ represents the act of choosing to support businesses and jobs in Ireland.

The Guaranteed Irish not-for-profit membership organisation began in 1974 with a campaign by the Irish Goods Council. Today, 2,300 member businesses directly employ over 150,000 people and have a combined turnover of €14.75 billion.  The Guaranteed Irish symbol is awarded to both indigenous companies and international businesses operating in Ireland, encouraging consumers to buy locally, supporting business, their employees and wider supply chains.
