Taoiseach unveils Somme Anniversary Stamp
June 21st, 2006: Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern TD unveiled a special commemorative 75c postage stamp marking the 90th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme at Government Buildings today. The stamp will be available from Monday next, June 26th.
The stamp and First Day Cover were designed by Ms Ger Garland, and feature the painting The Battle of the Somme (36th Ulster Division) by J. P. Beadle, which is reproduced with the kind permission of Belfast City Council. The First Day Cover also features a reproduction of South Irish Horse. The stamp is available from the Philatelic Bureau, GPO, Dublin; at main Post Offices and online at www.irishstamps.ie 75c covers airmail postage for a standard letter to anywhere in the world.
