NEW ELECTRICALLY POWERED POST VEHICLE FOR INIS MOR

23rd April 2007, Inis Mor, Aran Islands: An Post’s first electrically powered vehicle, which will be used to deliver mail on Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands was launched today by Minister for Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs Éamon Ó Cuiv TD and An Post Chief Executive Donal Connell and Island Postman Sean Mullin.

Supplied by Mitsubishi, the vehicle has zero emissions and is therefore extremely environmentally friendly and quiet.  It has a maximum speed of 57kph and a battery capacity of between 90 and 137km and best of all, the battery can be re-charged from standard mains power.
