An Post Asks For No Post To Drogheda or Tuam
15 February 2004
This step has been taken by An Post to enable clearance of a sizeable backlog of mail which has resulted from continued unofficial industrial action over the past fortnight by mails staff who are members of the Communications Workers Union .
In Drogheda, a backlog of more than 50,000 items of mail awaits delivery, much of which is more than two days behind schedule.
In Tuam Delivery Office, unofficial industrial action by mails staff over the past fortnight has resulted in a backlog of more than 25,000 items of mail.
An Post very much regrets the inconvenience caused to customers by these posting restrictions.
The company urges the Communications Workers Union to ensure that all unofficial industrial action is brought to an immediate end and normal working resumed. This will allow any grievances to be processed through established, agreed procedures.
