Making Better Happen for Our Community

The 2026 An Post Handwriting competition is now closed.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter, we’ve been delighted with the response and are currently reviewing all submissions.

Please stay tuned: winners will be announced in the coming weeks.

An Post is proud to support literacy in schools through our annual Writing Competition.

This year, the theme of the competition is “Making Better Happen For Our Community” and pupils are invited to explore how they can help create positive change within their communities through actions that support sustainability, diversity and inclusion.

Children from Junior Infants to 6th Class are asked to write a handwritten letter describing the steps they can take to “make better happen” where they live, learn and play. All participating schools will receive certificates, and there are exciting prizes for winning pupils and schools across each category!

Our classroom resources - developed in consultation with teachers - are packed with facts, activities, and support materials to help bring the theme to life in your classroom. This year’s suite includes even more lesson plans and activities for every class.
