eCommerce in Ireland

The internet has become the new global marketplace and the shopping destination of choice for a growing number of consumers, including those in Ireland.

Over the last decade, the number of Irish people shopping online has risen to more than 50% from less than a fifth in 2007. Clothing and footwear are the most common Irish purchases online followed by travel services and books and music.

Market data

Research suggests that the Irish digital economy is expanding almost nine times faster than the wider economy. It is estimated to be worth more than €12.3 billion and to contribute six per cent to Ireland’s total gross domestic product.

Online revenue at Irish eCommerce websites grew by 45% last year as traffic increased by 14% and transactions rose by 32%, according to Wolfgang Digital (PDF, 9.05MB).

International transactions accounted for nearly a quarter of all revenue generated by Irish retailers in 2017 while three-quarters of Irish online sales went to websites abroad.

Our eCommerce solutions

The rapid shift to online shopping has led to huge changes for retailers and carriers as they search for faster, better and cheaper ways to get products from the website to the front door.

Speed, accuracy and convenience all rate high on the Irish consumer wish list with research showing:

  • Next day delivery is becoming the new standard as demand for faster delivery and returns intensifies
  • Flexibility is key as a growing number of consumers expect providers to accommodate inflight changes of delivery method, destination and time
  • Visibility on the delivery process is increasingly important for Irish shoppers with real-time tracking set to become the norm

We aim to make it easy for you to sell and for your customers to buy, receive and return goods, wherever and whenever they choose.

Our unique local delivery knowledge can help you to meet the challenge of the last-mile, our reputation for operational excellence means you can be sure your delivery is dropped to its destination while our commitment to innovation means you can keep pace with changing customer needs.
