Control your costs this winter by paying your household bills at the Post Office, you can even part-pay on bills in advance to spread your costs so that big bills don’t hit all at once. All major bills are accepted. Household Budget

Take back control of your day-to-day finances with our free Household Budget  service. If you’re a qualifying social welfare recipient, you can put a regular amount towards your household bills using Household Budget and the money is deducted directly from your payment. We operate the scheme on behalf of the Department of Social Protection.

How to open an account

Contact our customer helpline at 1800 70 71 72 or complete the Household Budget Deduction Instruction Form (PDF, 485KB) for each bill you want to contribute to. Send the form back to:

If you are in need of a loan and are in receipt of social welfare, you may think that you have no other option than to turn to a moneylender, but there is another option, your local credit union. 

The ‘It Makes Sense Loan’ is cheaper than a money lender, provides quick loan approval and An Post will look after your repayments through the Household Budget scheme! Loans are available from €100 - €2,000.
