Centenary of the Army Equitation School / Centenary of the Aga Khan
Founded in 1926, the Irish Army Equitation School has fulfilled its mission for a century, to promote Ireland and the Irish horse on the world stage.
That same year, the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) hosted its first Nations’ Cup at the Dublin Horse Show. The competition became known as the ‘Aga Khan,’ after Aga Khan III donated a magnificent trophy in appreciation of a tradition that would become central to Irish sporting identity.
The Irish Army Equitation School and the Aga Khan at the annual RDS Dublin Horse Show exemplify the expertise, tradition, and international standing of Ireland’s equine sector. These events highlight a legacy grounded in skill, determination, and the distinctive qualities of the Irish sport horse.
Two commemorative stamps capture that spirit. Horse and rider, working as one, burst from the frame in a moment of pure athleticism, their power and precision set against colours inspired by the Irish flag.
