Seventy years ago, in 1956, six nations – Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands – issued the first EUROPA stamp. It was just eleven years since the end of the Second World War, a violent and uncertain period for many European nations.
Thus began the PostEurop philatelic initiative to foster stronger relationships among European countries and promote peace and unity. Subsequently, the initiative has grown to include fifty-three participating postal organisations. Every year, together, they issue a new stamp, with a different theme each time.
For 2026, the EUROPA universal stamp design was created by Posti Ltd, Finland to mark the 70th anniversary of the programme. It was essential to mark the importance of the mission and the occasion, and the positive spirit with which it has been infused from the start. Seven diagonal dots are linked by a line representing both the perforations of a block of stamps and the progressive work, over seventy years, of the European Postal Association.
The Europe Stamp with 'E' denomination covers postage for letters and postcards to destinations in Zones 2 and 3. For a full list of countries included in each zone, please refer to our postal guide.
