Youth clubs, which are located all over Ireland,
provide safe, friendly spaces where young
people can spend time with their peers, have
fun and experience the feeling of being part
of a supportive community.
In the process – almost without noticing it –
they develop skills and have novel, exciting
experiences in an environment that caters
perfectly to them and their needs. All of this
helps them to acquire the confidence, sense
of responsibility and self-reliance that will
serve them well as they become adults.
Large numbers of young people in Ireland
participate in youth clubs – many more
than the European average. In fact, almost
a quarter of Irish young people take part in
a youth club at some stage, putting Ireland
in the top three countries for youth club
involvement.
In recognition of the many important
contributions youth clubs make to Ireland and
Irish society, this year An Post issues two
stamps honouring the role that they play in
making Ireland a better place for young
people.
Our stamps feature bright, engaging colours
and striking designs that highlight the values
of togetherness and belonging. Symbolising
the immense positive impact of youth clubs
on the individual and society, they highlight
the wonderful work carried out by a sector
that is often underestimated in terms of its
vast, positive reach.
