Mixed Booklet of 5 Stamps (Keep It Country)

It can be said that Ireland has certainly ‘kept it country’ for many decades as fans up and down the provinces have flocked to hear their favourite stars and buy their recordings. It is most appropriate, therefore, that we should honour five leading lights of the country music scene with special stamps for issue on March 30.

This set of stamps acknowledges Irish Country Music stars Big Tom, Cliona Hagan, Philomena Begley, Daniel O'Donnell and Nathan Carter. All five are hugely popular as concert performers, with a loyal fan base across Ireland. They are rightly regarded in the top echelons of the music genre internationally. The stamps capture the performances of three icons of the scene and two great ‘new wave’ Irish country stars. 

For our stamps, we chose a distinctive design approach that calls to mind the traditional method of communicating local events and social occasions in rural Ireland. Very often, letterpress posters were the only such visual means. The design format, developed by Detail, focuses on this aspect and on the strong sense of community reflected by the Irish country music industry.
