Advice to An Post Customers regarding recent Royal Mail ‘Cyber Incident’

12 January 2023

Update - 30th January 2023

An Post wishes to advise customers that the incident has since been resolved. Royal Mail is despatching all items to Ireland from Britain and Northern Ireland as normal.

There may be some minor delays as Royal Mail work with any backlog that may have accumulated during the disruption

We are aware that Royal Mail has been impacted by a Cyber incident and we advise our customers as follows:

Customers can continue shopping on all big brand UK websites as these parcel deliveries are not affected.  Royal Mail will continue to despatch all parcels to the Republic of Ireland.

While Royal Mail will not be despatching any letters or small packets to Ireland from Britain or Northern Ireland for the next few days,  An Post will continue to despatch all mail (letters, small parcel packets and parcels) to Britain and Northern Ireland as normal.  These items may be subject to delivery delay once they arrive in the UK.

There are already quite significant delays on parcels from Britain as a result of recent strikes and operational issues at Royal Mail.  All items which arrive from Britain are delivered within 24 hours, provided the required EU Customs documentations is in place and any outstanding fees are paid at the post office or securely at anpost.com

We continue to liaise with Royal Mail and we will keep customers updated as more information becomes available.
